Safe Families for Children

Join us for a training that is required for all volunteers that serve families with Safe Families for Children.
Sat, May 12, 2018 10am – 1pm  Registration is required. If you'd like to sign up, HEAD HERE.

Safe Families creates extended family-like support for families in crisis through a community of compassionate volunteers. We keep children safe and families intact.

We organize vetted and trained volunteers from local churches to offer a broad community of support for families who feel overwhelmed or isolated. Our volunteers seek to empower, encourage, and strengthen families through mutually beneficial relationships. There are a variety of volunteer roles to come alongside families. The roles are flexible and volunteers can offer support according to their skills, interests, and availability.

Volunteer roles:

1. Family Friend- befriends and supports parents and/or their children, by offering services such as babysitting, transportation, mentoring, help connecting with local resources, help with job or housing searches, and other friend-like support.

2. Resource Friend- donates and delivers a variety of items (beds, clothes, diapers, etc.) or volunteer services (medical care, dental care, counseling, etc.) to families.

3. Family Coach- coordinates the team of volunteers, making sure that the parent, child, and Family Friends have the resources needed to thrive.

4. Host Family*- temporarily host the children of families in crisis so that the parent can work towards gaining stability.

*Overnight hosting is temporarily suspended in NYC, however, those who are interested in hosting in the future should come to this introductory training.
