The Muhlenberg Lenten Reflections
This March, The Parish of Calvary St. George's is excited to announce "The Muhlenberg Lenten Reflections." This four day event will feature daily lectures by acclaimed theologian The Rev. Dr. Victor Lee Austin, and will continue the vision of William Augustus Muhlenberg, a 19th century clergyman and educator. As the rector of Holy Communion Church here in New York City, he was a pioneer in the liturgical movement of the Episcopal Church in the mid 1800's, and was the first Episcopal priest to hold weekly Eucharist. He considered himself 'evangelical and catholic,' being devoted to Christ, the Scriptures, and to the shared faith of the historic universal church. Our guest speaker this year, Rev. Austin, is the theologian-in-residence of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. On Thursday and Fridaynights Dr. Austin will give talks entitled, "The Friend at the Last Supper" and "The Friend on the Cross respectively. On Sunday, at The Forum, he'll conclude his reflections with a class entitled "The Resurrected Friend." Lectures will happen daily at 7:00 pm, in the historic St. George's Chapel.
